As friends and familygather for the holidays and we look back on 2024, there is an opportunity for each of us to reflect and celebrate. Beyond the festivities surrounding the special events on our calendars, we prepare to settle in for winter and all it entails in New England. Firewood stacked? Shovels ready? Hot chocolate on hand? 'Tis the season!
American Eagle Financial Credit Union recently welcomed new members in the merger with Wellness Federal Credit Union this past year. Since 1955, Wellness FCU mirrored the rich history and values of our own Credit Union. The merger allowed us to combine our collective strengths and resources to benefit our members. We welcomed talented people who blended smoothly with our team, and we also appreciated the financial soundness of their organization. Importantly, this merger advances our core goal of delivering Financial Freedom to our membership.
Our third quarter's financial results are very positive. These include total assets of $2.55 billion and a robust loan portfolio of $1.49 billion. Thanks to recent rate cuts from the Fed, we are generating loan production that benefits our membership. Liquidity remains a key strength for us, paired with a solid capital position currently at 9.71% of total assets. This strong foundation positions us well to navigate any potential economic challenges ahead. We are on track to meet our net income target for 2024, which empowers us to continue making strategic investments in technology and innovation, specifically on our digital platform and in the call center. These efforts will help us enhance services for our valued members and strengthen the communities we serve.
In this season of giving and gratitude, American Eagle team members continue to be incredibly generous with their time and treasure. More than 2,400 hours of volunteer service have been provided this year to more than 90 organizations throughout our community. We applaud our team members for illustrating our values to lift up and enrich others.
Similarly, American Eagle is in its fifth year of the successful Cash Back to the Community, the cornerstone of our giving program. For the third quarter of 2024, AEFCU presented $27,636 to three organizations selected by our community: Enfield Food Shelf, Windsor Education Foundation, and Windsor Food & Fuel Bank. Each organization received a check for $9,212 to further the nonprofit programs they provide to the community members they serve. Since the program's inception, more than $490,000 has been donated to local organizations dedicated to improving their communities. These contributions are made possible by the profitability of AEFCU's credit and debit card portfolio and corresponding activity. This approach is a perfect example of the Credit Union way—we want our members to do better when the Credit Union is successful. We rise and fall together.
That said, American Eagle was the proud recipient of the Impact Award for the category of "Company Making an ImpaCT." This prestigious award, presented by FOX 61 and the United Way, recognizes AEFCU's deep commitment to giving back to the communities we support throughout Connecticut.

"Back to School"
Our team members gathered over 2,100 items and raised $700 for United Way. We also had 50 volunteers at the East Hartford Public Schools' Back to School Rally, sorting supplies and filling hundreds of donated backpacks to kick off the school year right!
Honoring Our Veterans
American Eagle FCU proudly sponsored Boxes to Boots Operation Cares Day. With the help of 30 volunteers, we wrapped and packed over 1,600 care packages for our servicemen and servicewomen overseas. In our Glastonbury branch, team members Susan, Jamie, and Stephanie created a heartfelt poster to thank our veteran members. Many veterans were touched, sharing emotional stories and gratitude.
Alzheimer's Awareness Month
In honor of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, American Eagle supported the Alzheimer’s Association of Connecticut. Team members participated in a “10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s” Lunch and Learn to enhance their personal and professional knowledge. On November 9, 2024, AEFCU proudly took part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, presenting a donation alongside funds raised by our dedicated team.
Team Members Join Forces to Help Those in Need
Together, team members collected 160 pounds of food and dedicated 33 hours to stocking pantry shelves. Additionally, they assembled 150 "blessing bags" with essential items for those experiencing homelessness. Hands On Hartford will distribute these bags during their nighttime outreach to provide support to those in need.
